Years ago, I used to be a milkshake freak! I would have Milo, an Australian chocolate malty powder mixed in with milk pretty much every day. I would actually put a little bit of milk and about 4 heaped tablespoons of the mixture. Very very tasty but not healthy in the slightest!
I loved the taste of milk and cream but rarely touch these anymore. I do believe that milk is not good for us at all. Even if its organic milk, its still pasturised (heat treated) and nutrients are pretty much devoid. Also, I do not think that its true we get most of our calcium from milk, in fact, there is evidence to prove that milk leaches calcium from our bones! (google it if you don’t believe me!) I am sure you would have heard of this too, that we are the only animals that drink another animals milk!
I may not like what milk does or where it comes from, but I tell you, I loved the taste!
When I first went raw I didn’t realise that you can make things taste like milk and have that creaminess.
This Mylkshake I have made would make anyone think you were drinking a ‘proper’ milkshake. It was so nice when I tasted this I closed my eyes and had weak knees!
When you make Raw food that tastes amazing, it really is the best feeling as you don’t have to miss out on food and drinks that taste as good as the mainstream stuff. Yet the most important benefit is that its GOOD for us!
Anyway, enough blabbering on, please do give this a try!
Banana, Honey & Macadamia Mylk Shake
1 large ripe banana
1/3 cup of macadamias (or cashews)
1 cup and half of filtered/alkaline water
1 tsp of raw honey
(can also add vanilla extract/bean/coconut flesh from young thai coconuts)
Blend in high speed blender – check the consistency if its not runny enough add more water, or if its too runny add some more nuts. Have a taste and see if its sweet enough! ENJOY!!
Why its good for you and guilt free:
Bananas: are rich in vitamin B6, vitamin C, and potassium.
Macadamias are highly nutritious nuts. They have the highest amount of beneficial monounsaturated fats of any known nut. They also contain 9% protein, 9% carbohydrate, 2% dietary fiber, calcium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, selenium, iron, thiamine, riboflavin and niacin
Raw, unprocessed honey is a superfood that provides antioxidants, minerals, vitamins, amino acids, enzymes, carbohydrates, and phytonutrients.
See, no excuse to feel that you can’t have one of these mylkshakes – even on a ‘diet’ this is great to have!
Hi Anna!
Wowww… This drink actually taste good! No no.. not just good but GREAT!!! It was really delicious. I must admit that I was tempted to put milk into the blend but decided to stick to the recipe and i’m glad I did!
I also simply added a dash of vanilla cinnamon powder, just because i love cinnamon in my smoothies/milkshakes!
Thanks Anna.
xoxo

“I am sure you would have heard of this too, that we are the only animals that drink another animals milk!”
But it is proven that young animals depend on their mothers milk as their main source of food in the most important stages of growth and bone developement? So surely all animals drink milk and if it had no nourishing qualities it wouldn’t be produced by mothers or be a key factor in a part of their youngs life?
I always love your blogs Anna they’re so interesting xx
Hey yes you are right but all animals should only drink the milk from their own species not drink other animals. For humans we shouldn’t drink cows milk etc as it gets rejected by our stomachs which is why there are so many people who are lactose intolerant. Also there is more evidence that dairy leaches calcium from our bones, increase asthma and forms mucous in the chest.
My blog is all about alternatives to eating animal products
glad you like blog didn’t know you read it
