Tacos!!
WOW! this recipe was such a surprise to me! I have Shazzie’s book, ‘Evie’s Kitchen’ and there is a recipe in there for tomato crackers. I used the basic ingredients in the recipe, tomatoes, sundried tomates, salt and water but added to it some flax seed meal and some chili flakes.
I couldn’t believe how yummy it was and thought straight away, this would be perfect for making Taco shells!
I am not a big fan of corn really. I have been watching lots of movies about the food industry and its quite scary that everything that is main stream food, pretty much comes from corn. Cattle get fed the corn (which makes them sick) then people eat the meat = you eat corn too.
All of our confectionery food is not only poisonous from the sugars and non organic ingredients, but they also have huge amounts of high fructose corn syrup. The way they process it is horrifying, ground, boiled, steamed and boiled again its just one of the worst things ever. Its cheap disgusting stuff and why everyone is so much more fat. McDonalds food is pretty much all corn based as well. The meat, the burgers, the mayo, icecreams – all of it is corn based.
So, I try to avoid it at all costs. But, now I am thrilled to realise that I don’t need to miss out on mexican type food. I have some fabulous mexican raw recipes and when they ask for corn I will try it with Tomatoes instead.
Obviously the shape of the Tacos here isnt right but if you get it out of the dehydrator whilst its still pliable then you can shape it like a taco.
This recipe is also very versatile.
I have an idea now to make a pizza base made mainly with tomatoes (instead of grain based) so will test that out soon!
You can use this for crackers of course, dry them till they are really crispy, or spread them extra thin so that they are like chips.
Its so easy to do, this is one of those recipes that gets you excited about the easiness of raw food, so many think its hard but it isnt!
ok here is the recipe!
3-4 large tomatos
4 sundried tomatoes
himalayan Crystal salt
oregano flakes – 1 tablespoon
1 tsp chili flakes
1/3 cup of flaxseed meal
water – enough so that everything is really blended smoothly although mine had some chunks of sundried tomato – this was lovely!
I put this in my vitamix but you can use a food processor.
Make sure its the right consistency – spread out over one dehydrator tray lined with the teflex sheet.
I left the mixture quite thick because tomatoes have quite a bit of water in them and of course, the dehydrator will dry that out so if you want tacos leave it quite thick so that it dries well.
I let it dry for about 10 hours on 115 degrees – flip over at 4 hour mark though – at ten hours see if its right to use as tacos (still pliable)
You could also add some other spices if you like, curry mix would be lovely.
This recipe is one of my favorites so easy to do and so tasty.
Non raw people would love this!!
