The Art of Raw Living FoodThe Art of Raw Living Food is a 175 page raw recipe book created by Doreen Virtue and Jenny Ross.

Jenny owns the very well known 118 degrees restaurant in Cost Mesa, California and many of the recipes in this book are from there.

Doreen Virtue is known as one of the leading figures in the spiritual movement and has written SO many books on many different subjects (very famous for her books on Angels) that you probably wouldn’t believe me if I told you!  The inside of the book cover are listed with her books, kits, oracle boards and audio cds – its spans two entire pages!

Together, they have made a very colorful, handy sized recipe book that has lots of mouth watering gourmet  meals and snacks that you will want to try out straight away.

With loads of info on the raw diet and what it does for the body and mind, its the type of book that gets you instantly keen to try new recipes or change the way you eat!

For those who aren’t sure when to eat what, there is a chapter with meal plans to help you get started on your raw journey.

Many of the recipes have Mexican and Italian influences, so are full of flavor and appealing colors.

There are 25 delicious drink recipes such as Rainbow light juice , Merry Monkey Smoothie, Dancing Rainbow Smoothie and many more that are delicious and easy to make.

If you love salads there are about 10 recipes for those some simple and some a little bit more gourmet. Look out for the Ceasar Salad which is the most popular salad they sell at 118 degrees. The cover page of this book shows the ‘Summer Berry Salad’ which sounds just gorgeous. With Strawberries and berries, its a nice summer style dish that I will look forward to preparing when its a bit warmer here.

There are also some fantastic bread and wrap recipes which look very easy.  The only thing that is a bit difficult obtaining for some of them is the Young Thai Coconuts.  But thats just London, I know in the states its a lot easier to source those. Over here, I have to buy a big box of about 12 that need to be used within a few days and I just think that is too many to get at once.

I have a real sweet tooth and with approx 40 recipes, there are many yummy things that I can whip up in no time.

What I like about this book is there are some basic recipes that you can use for quite a few other meals. For instance, there are dessert bases, biscuit bases and wrap bases that can have a few other things added to that basic recipe to turn the dish into a completely different taste.   There are some fabulous ice cream recipes – I particularly love the look of the ‘Chai Creme’.

There are quite a few recipes that don’t require a dehydrator, so don’t be put off from trying this book or from trying raw, you dont actually have to have a dehydrator to do it well.

You will also find in here the recipe for prettiest looking pizza I have ever seen!

I liked the variety of different marinade recipes as well which look super easy to make.  Marinated vegetables in the raw world taste amazing, the flavors are just so strong, and you really notice the potency of the vegetables themselves, something which is missing from stir fried recipes!

Look out for a mouth watering recipe for ‘Pear Pie’, a lovely twist on the usual Apple pie, although there is also recipe for Apple Pie too.

Pomegranate Passion Smoothie

The food in this book is very pretty and appealing, I can imagine it being served at a lovely spa somewhere.  If you love outdoor living (who doesn’t?) then these recipes will be perfect for summer when you want to invite people around.  The recipe book as a whole I think really suits a warmer climate as some of the dishes are very light, but that doesnt mean it won’t be a good addition to your recipes in England.  After all, summer is around the corner!

Its definitely a fantastic book to add to your raw recipe collection.  I love getting new raw books, you always learn something new about certain combinations.

People often ask me, oh what do you eat when you are raw? They tend to think there isn’t that much we can create, well they are very wrong! There are thousands of things we can make and really its never ending!
