It’s Mother’s Day this coming Sunday and I know a lot of you are going to be wondering what to get mum. Flowers and chocolates are such a typical thing to get, and who doesn’t love those,  but I wanted to tell you about another gift idea from Interflora.

Instead of giving her flowers, which will not last more than a week or so, why don’t you consider giving her a Peace Lily which will last much much longer than a bunch of flowers and will be good for her!

What is even better than giving a plant that lasts longer is the fact that this particular plant, the Peace Lily is what we call a ‘healthy living plant’.  This plant actually makes the air in the room it is in, much healthier as it absorbs toxins (such as paint fumes, glue in carpets, furniture toxins etc)from the air.

”this plant is also know for its excellent air-purifying qualities. The Clean Air Study conducted by NASA revealed that spathiphyllum is listed among the top ten plants equipped with air-cleaning qualities. Some species are known to remove formaldehyde, benzine, and carbon monoxide from the air. It is also effective in eliminating ammonia, acetone, ethyl and methyl alcohol, ethyl acetate, trichlorothylene and xylene from the surrounding atmosphere.”

I have several of these in my lounge room where I spend most of my day (blogging of course!).

I have been reading that the air in our homes is actually quite toxic, sometimes more so than outside is! One easy way to fix this is to put lots of plants in your house.  Not all plants however, are as good as the Peace Lily.

This particular plant is very pretty, I love the white flowers that is has which are on some of the tips.  It is also a plant that is easy to look after as well, making it a no trouble plant!

I think this Mother’s day, give her a plant and some chocolates instead of flowers!

Peace Lily priced at £ 26.99 with Free Delivery!

Interflora have some fab Mother’s Day Fair Trade Flowers as well if you do want to give flowers!

Hi Sharon and Denise! am glad you both are into these lovely plants! I have only just brought them into my home and its made a big difference!
I have a mother in laws tongue that was in the bedroom but decided that for it to be really beneficial to make air better, i need quite a few of them so have brought it back into the lounge room with the others I have, my lounge room looks like a forest!
  • Another two that are great for indoors and for air purification are - mother in law's tounge (good present for the mother in law) and the money plant.

Both are fantastic for a healthy home.

The peace lily is truly gorgeous though!
  • Fantastic idea. I used to work in a flower shop. The flowers you buy on Mothers Day are often not that fresh simply because the huge demand requires a bit of stockpiling and florists rush like mad to have all their arrangements done and look after the last minute guys too!

Peace Lilies are one of the few plants that you can't overwater and when they're thirsty they let you know! They're almost impossible to kill so they're a fantastic deal!

    Loving your blogposts!
