After spending quite a bit of time researching for my book which is out late this year, I have written a section about the dangers of using non stick cookwear. What I discovered was quite horrific. Using these types of cooking items is incredibly toxic to your health.
So toxic in fact that there have been cases of birds being killed who have been in the house near the kitchens, exposed to the fumes. They have died because they are much smaller than us, but that does not mean that we are not getting effected by the fumes.
The coatings, made famous by 'Teflon' brand, have now been proven to be cancer causing:
It's just not common knowledge you see as they are still being sold and are not yet banned.
Not only has Teflon been caused to be dangerous, it has also created toxic water ways - and harmed people living near by certain factories. So many people in fact that they have sued the company for massive damages - and won too!

So, with all of this knowledge, I don't want myself, my family, or anyone to eat off cookwear that has Teflon and non stick coatings on it! Way too dangerous!
Yet, I do like the idea of not having a hard time washing up my pans after I have used them. If you ever make scrambled eggs, they are a mess on the pan and you have to scrub really really hard and sometimes even have to soak them for ages.
For a messy cook like me, things like that are a real pain in the behind!
Luckily, there is a great company called 'Green Pan' who have designed a huge range of impressive cook wear items that do have a non stick coating but its completely safe.
The pans are lightweight and made with exceptional high quality. I was sent a small pan which is perfect for cooking crepes, and dishes like that.
I was impressed with the feel of the pan, it's made so well and has a life time guarantee! It does advise to not heat up too high (makes sense, nothing should be that hot really!) and to take care of it by cleaning properly. If you do this, then the pans will last a long time.
Last night I made a polenta pizza and it turned out perfectly. The last time I made one it was an absolutely disaster! Because its non stick, as you are cooking you can easily get the egg flipper underneath so that you can easily turn what you are making over. It also means that the mess left is absolutely minimal and will take seconds to clean.
I could not be more impressed with this company and am looking forward to adding more to my collection. One of the local shops where I have moved to sells them! ( I live in a very eco village!)
The company have pans for home use and also for professional use as well and a very famous Chef Michel Roux has developed a range for professional chefs (or for those cooks at home who may as well be chefs!)
I didnt know that anyone could make non stick cook wear safe, but Green Pan have developed something truly amazing!
