Well, the latest depressing results are in, and I'm sad to report U.S. pets continued to get fatter during 2011. A survey of veterinarians conducted by the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention (APOP) found that 53 percent of adult dogs and 55 percent of adult cats are officially overweight or obesei.

A 'toxic load' is the quantity of chemicals and other biologically foreign substances that accumulate in the body of an animal over weeks, months and years. In many cases, the heavier the load, the sicker the animal.

And it really isn’t that long ago that we started to domesticate these species for our own pleasure and companionship; certainly not long enough ago for them to have “adapted” to eat cooked food.
